About Us
Dorset People First is a charity led by people who have learning difficulties. We support each other to "speak up and lead change". We work across Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset. Our projects include The Forum, Total Communication, Just Say, and Citizenship.
"I have worked at Dorset People First for two and a half years. I like all the work I do especially going to meetings and talking to people and I helped with an interview as well." - Jane Smith, Co-worker.
Dorset People First is for all people who have learning difficulties living in Dorset. Membership is free. Members are invited to our events, take part in consultation, get newsletters and are encouraged to speak up about things that are important to them.
"We know best about our lives and are the experts on how we feel."
"Things should be done with us not done to us"
"Nothing about us without us!"
We are a registered charity (no. 1106963). (See our listing on the Charity Commission website.)
Our members helped to write a "Bill of Rights" in 2004, and this describes the things we belive in.
