Our Trainers
Clare Tarling - Total Communication, Easy Information
Clare has been coordinating the Total Communication Project for 4 years. Her background is as a support worker for people with learning disabilities, working for organisations such as Mencap and Leonard Cheshire Homes. She has worked with a variety of people who have moderate to severe communication difficulties.
Clare regularly delivers a variety of training courses alongside Dorset's Speech and Language Team. She is currently studying for a Masters degree in "Profound Learning Disability and Sensory Impairment" at Manchester University.

Sally Scott
Sally supports Peter, Elizabeth and Alison to develop and deliver training. She has been working at Dorset People First since 2005, and was a volunteer and trustee before this. She works on the Forum and Citizenship projects.
Sally has worked alongside people with learning disabilities in a variety of roles since 1990. She is a qualified Social Worker, and has worked as both support worker and registered manager in a range of residential settings.
Elizabeth Grainger
Elizabeth has worked for Dorset People First since April 2006, working on our Citizenship and “Supporting People” projects. She has delivered training for trainee police officers about Learning Disability Awareness, and given presentations and workshops to people with learning disabilities on a variety of subjects. Elizabeth is a very confident presenter, helping groups to participate and to feel at ease.
Helen Nicolson
Helen has been working with people with learning difficulties for over 15 years, in health, social care, home care and educational settings. She started supporting self advocacy groups in 1999 and helped to set up the Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset Forums. Her work at Dorset People First includes supporting the Dorset Forum and the Citizenship project. For the past 4 years she has also been supporting a member of the National Forum of People with Learning Difficulties and has recently taken on the role of co-ordinating and supporting the SW Regional Forum.
Helen has BA and BSc Hons degrees from the Open University and an Adult Teaching Certificate.
